YouthTruth Validation Study

YouthTruth Student Survey captures student voices, enabling school and district leaders to track students’ perceptions of their school experiences.

YouthTruth is a national survey project that harnesses student and stakeholder feedback to help guide decision-making by school leaders and education funders. The project began in 2008 as a collaboration between the Center for Effective Philanthropy and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to provide a means to hear directly and systematically from students. With a grant from the Fund for Shared Insight, YouthTruth partnered with SRI to examine the relationship between key student survey experience scales and school-level academic and behavioral outcomes. This validation study used U.S. Department of Education EdFacts data and data from the Civil Rights Data Collection to examine the relationship between YouthTruth scales and school-level proficiency rates, ninth-retention rates, chronic absences, and suspensions.
